New Year, New Me?

New Year, New Me. That's a statement that gets tossed around a lot in January, then after that its like- stay your slovenly self until next year! I actually started my New Me journey in August. As I mentioned before, I got a gym membership back in March, about a week or so before everything shut down. Part of me held off on doing anything at home because I thought things would open relatively quickly. That never happened, and while my gym did some shady stuff in order to open back up, I haven't felt comfortable going. My husband took up disc golf pretty quickly, but wouldn't let me go with him to play (still doesn't)- I felt angry and also bored, so in August I'd had enough and I planned out how my health journey was going to go.

First off- planning how things will go and how they actually go are two totally different things. Is an understatement to say that planning on losing weight once I started working out, but actually gaining it was shocking and discouraging. Normally that would have been enough for me to give up right there, but I didn't (at least right away).

I started in August with a few goals- drink 90oz of water a day, do one Blogilates workout three times a week (because I was horribly our of shape and wanted to ease back in), and drink the maximum of three sodas a day (they are my weakness and I can go all day without eating as long as I have soda). As each month progressed, I changed my goals a little bit (lowered the water intake to 60oz daily because I felt so waterlogged and disgusting), moved my workouts to four Blogilates workouts four times a week, and the sodas stayed the same (because I'm having a hard time with that). During all this I felt really hungry all the time. I tried to tone the hunger down with snacks like almonds and cucumbers (because I can't eat five full meals a day- that makes me sick just to think about it), and adding lemon to some of my water (because its supposed to be amazing for weight loss). I can't say that anything helped me, because like I said, I gained weight. November hit me really hard- my depression was at an all time high and I think the only goal I completed that month was my workouts. So I decided that I was going to take a month off in December. My heart wasn't in it, and I just needed a break.

So its January now. I haven't started back on my workouts yet, but I've been getting prepared. Something I needed from the start was a yoga mat. I have wood floors, and blankets just don't cut it when you need to be on your knees or back. I really wanted one from Blogilates/Popflex Active, but I couldn't really afford it. But luckily(!!), she has a line at Target that launched right after Christmas. So I picked up a yoga mat and some yoga socks. Everything in the line is super cute and I'm hoping to get some more items. I'm also excited because Cassey (the owner behind Blogilates/Popflex Active) is starting a #21DayTone Challenge on January 4th. I use her Body by Blogliates app all the time and love it, so I'm hoping I can keep up with this. If you're looking for something to jump start your new year- I think this would be great.

Follow Cassey on Instagram and check out her website!

I get that you may be running the other way because I told you I have yet to meet my goals. Just because I'm still fine tuning doesn't mean that you shouldn't give this (whatever floats your boat) a try. Cassey's videos are really good, and her Instagram accounts are all really inspiring.

Are you starting a health journey this month? Or have you been on one for a while? Share what you're doing in the comments- I'd love to try it out!

**Tiny disclaimer- I have a few affiliate links in here. None of them are to the Blogilates/Popflex Active sites, its just for Target. My default explanation page is here.**

This is 2021

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all made it out of 2020 safe and healthy. While everyone had a tough time, I hope some good came out of that garbage year too.

2021 has started off with the same uncertainty that flowed through 2020 like the Mississippi River. But not all of it is bad- I might be getting a job soon. I interviewed back in December, and while we aren't officially being told if we passed on to the next stage or not until January 6th, the website this company uses updates your application status, and mine currently says eligible list. I haven't worked in almost eleven years, so I am nervous to say the least. My kids aren't thrilled at the idea of me not being around as much anymore, but its really time for me to get out and make some money. I have spent almost eleven years volunteering like its my job- but the lack of paycheck has contributed a lot to my burnout (did I just admit that I'm tired of volunteering? I never thought I'd utter those words).

2021 will see a continued version of my health journey (that post is coming soon). Depending on the job, that might change it a lot (and if I don't get it, then I have nothing to worry about). But I have to try because I have learned that I am tired of being stagnant. That's another one of those realizations that I didn't think I'd ever come to. I have felt uncomfortable and unhappy about a lot of things for a very long time, and last year gave me all the (unwanted) time to really think about and magnify those things. And I can't really ignore them anymore.

I don't have any particularly inspirational quote to leave you with- so I will just say that I hope this year is a great one- whatever that looks like for you. We're all still here, and living is half the battle.

Music Monday #11

Its the last Monday before we enter into 2021. I can't even sum up what this year has been. Dumpster fire is accurate, but its put so many things into perspective- so I don't think its been a total loss. Here are some tunes that will be helping me usher in the new year.

Shawn Mendes ft Justin Bieber- Monster

Lemonade ft Don Toliver, Gunn & Nav- Internet Money

Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin- RITMO

Unlike Pluto ft Mike Taylor- Everything Black

A Special Music Monday.....on a Friday (Its Christmas!!)

So my janky old computer is being mean and I can't share my favorite playlist (all Carol of the Bells). So I'm sharing three of my favorite Carol of the Bells videos instead (and yes, the Pentatonix one is good enough to share again).

Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, or you just aren't feeling it this year, I hope you all have a happy and safe day. We're almost done with 2020!

Pentatonix

Lindsey Stirling

Trans Siberian Orchestra

Do you have a favorite Christmas song? Or favorite version of  Carol of the Bells? Leave it below!

Music Monday #10

It's almost Christmas- can you believe it? I feel like we went from nine years of March straight into December.

Here's a little playlist to make your day more merry. Its a little bit of everything, and you can definitely tell that I have kids.

I will say- the Charlie Brown Christmas CD is one of my favorites to listen to, even if its not Christmas. There's a lot of classical songs on it and its just so relaxing. Lindsey Sterling and Pentatonix also fall into these categories. They are great for Christmas music, but also make awesome anytime music.

Music Monday #9

Christmas songs! Christmas songs! Honestly guys, I haven't been in the spirit this year. But I do love Pentatonix (yes- these are all holiday songs performed by them), so maybe if I listen to them enough, I'll feel less Grinchy.

And yes, I know that Kanye's Coldest Winter is not a holiday song. But its still awesome.

Coldest Winter

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Mary Did You Know?

Carol of the Bells (my favorite Christmas song ever!)

Music Monday #8

This will be the last week until the New Year to have any non holiday music (or that's the plan anyway). This one is all about female singers- let their mighty voices launch you into the holiday season full of grace and power. I feel like this should be a Spotify list- but then you'd miss out on all the cheese in these videos.

Christina Aguilera- Fighter

Kat DeLuna ft Elephant Man- Whine Up

Ashley Tisdale- He Said, She Said

Ashlee Simpson- Boyfriend

Lindsay Lohan- Rumors

Britney Spears- My Prerogative
